About
Working on the stolen lands of the Tsleil-Waututh, Skxwú7mesh, and Musqueam Nations, artist Bex has a certificate in Graphic Design from the University of Calgary and completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University in 2023–majoring in Painting and Photography. Using humor and colour, she is able to access both lighthearted subject matter, as well as critique more serious ideologies from a feminist lens.

Her artwork draws on her lived experience and she is intrigued by the way her body moves and is perceived within space. Her work explores bodily autonomy as she portrays the body in unconventional ways through cropping and distortion. She is interested in the objectification of the body and what happens when the body is left ambiguous, ungendered, or loosely alluded to. Working in analog photography, digitally, and in oil paint on stretched surfaces, her style ranges from the playfully imagined to hyper-realistic renderings of bodies, spaces and natural elements.
